Horror: The posters surrounding the horror genre I found to consist mainly of sinister looking faces, grotesque images of severed body parts or symbolic images of death for example a skull and cross bones. If I was to create a short horror film I would have to use some creativity with the symbols however I could also simply use photo shopped images of severed limbs or creepy faces appearing to be staring out at the audience.
Action: I found that action movie posters primarily included explosions, guns or someone running/jumping/fighting in a dramatic way. (for example running away from an explosion.) If I were to create a short action film I would need to have the main protagonist overcoming a large feat for example an explosion or collapsing building or have an angle where it is possible to see the protagonist using/holding a weapon in a fast paced scenario.
Comedy: I discovered that most comedy film posters (unless dark comedy) used the rule of thirds with the main protagonist(s) at the center doing something eccentric toward the audience. This ranged from simply smiling enigmatically out of the poster to clearly having something wrong/weird about them such as in the 'Hangover' poster where one man is missing a tooth whilst another has a matching pair of sunglasses with an infant. If I were to make a short comedy I would include some form of 'wacky' frame of something completely bizarre with maybe something else happening in the background.
Thriller: I have found out that the thriller genre focuses more on the supernatural side with such images as 'Inception' where the whole room is spinning around and with 'Source Code' where a man is appearing to materialize out of a computer style nexus. However thrillers also consist of close up shots of peoples faces in shocked expressions with some form of action happening around them revealing minor but exiting details about the plot to lure the audience in. If I was to make a thriller I think I would use something like 'Phone Booth' with a 'snappy' line underneath and some sort of action happening around the center obviously alluding to something significant happening to the protagonist.
